Most ulu bowls on the market are glued up from multiple contrasting woods, creating bold stripes running through the cutting surface. While eye-catching, all those competing lines can actually work against you — visually cluttering the very area where you need to focus most.

Our bowls take a different approach.
At 1 3/4" total thickness, each bowl is built in two distinct layers, each with a purpose. The upper ⅝" is rich walnut, featuring just a few subtle contrasting stripes — enough visual interest to make the piece beautiful without overwhelming it. The lower ¾" — the deeper portion where the real cutting happens — is clean, clear maple with no stripes at all. It gives your eye a calm, uncluttered surface to work against, so you can focus on what you're cutting rather than fighting through a busy pattern to see it.
The result is a bowl that's as practical as it is handsome. Clean lines, purposeful design, and a cutting surface that actually makes your work easier.
